The American people have repeatedly said; "Drill Here and Drill Now!" The American have NOT said, "Give us stalls and fake promises!" According to media accounts, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has supposedly eased her opposition to lifting moratoriums on drilling. But according to The Wall Street Journal; "According to people familiar with Ms. Pelosi's proposal, her plan borrows from a bipartisan plan proposed by a 'Gang of 10' senators... that allows several East Coast states to opt into drilling off their shores. It doesn't allow drilling off California or the eastern coast of Florida..."
The American people do not want "compromise" when it comes to drilling because, to be quite frank, some Members of Congress do not appear to understand the meaning of the word. As with the so-called amnesty "compromise legislation" last year and the Senate "compromise" on President Bush's judicial nominees before that; what the "Gang of Ten" and Speaker Pelosi appear to be proposing is nothing more than complete and total surrender... utter defeat for the American people!
The American people agree with House Minority Leader John Boehner who recently said: "While the Speaker now claims to embrace a comprehensive energy plan that includes more conservation, more innovation, and more American energy production, the Democrats' utter inaction on this issue trumps their newfound, hollow support for the very reforms Republicans have been promoting all year long." The media is now telling us that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has eased her opposition to lifting the Congressional moratorium on drilling and WILL allow a vote to occur!
But what is even more amazing is that some Members of Congress and liberals in the media still think that the American people are STUPID!
This isn't the FIRST time Pelosi has claimed that she would actually allow a vote on drilling!
In fact, here's what the media IS NOT reporting about Pelosi's supposed change of heart!
According to The Hill:
"Pelosi had previously said she would allow a vote on drilling and then backed off. On July 30, the last day Congress was in before the August recess, she was interviewed by the Capitol Hill press corps. She was asked if she could envision a vote on drilling in new areas this year, and she answered, 'Of course.'"
"But her aides later released a statement saying she was not announcing a change in her stance on a drilling vote."
And we all know what happened next.
MERE HOURS after making that statement, Pelosi hurriedly cut off debate, gaveled the House of Representative to adjournment, cut off the lights, shut off the microphones and hustled the press out of the chamber!
Is it possible that Pelosi's change of heart is nothing more than a clumsy and calculated STALL designed to make you back-off and hopefully forget all about this 'drilling nonsense' so she can move on to 'business as usual' when she gavels Congress back into session weeks from now?
There's an old Scottish proverb: "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me."

So, Is Pelosi Seriously Considering Allowing A Vote On Drilling?
In her Saturday radio address, Pelosi said:
"We hope our Republican colleagues will join in a bipartisan effort, not only to increase domestic supply but also to help consumers and to protect the environment."
"[B]ipartisan effort...?" "[P]rotect the environment.?" Give me a break!
Thankfully, some of our conservative leaders are not taking the bait.
According to The Wall Street Journal:
"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's proposal Saturday to make expanded offshore drilling part of a new Democratic energy bill got a skeptical reaction from Republicans, who said they suspect it will contain other provisions unacceptable to the minority."
House Minority Leader John Boehner had this to say:
"If Speaker Pelosi is truly sincere about having a vote on deep-ocean oil and gas drilling to help bring down fuel costs, she should use her power as Speaker to call Congress back into session immediately and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act."
Boehner also said:
"While the Speaker now claims to embrace a comprehensive energy plan that includes more conservation, more innovation, and more American energy production, the Democrats' utter inaction on this issue trumps their newfound, hollow support for the very reforms Republicans have been promoting all year long."
Republican Study Committee Chairman Congressman Jeb Hensarling isn't fooled either:
"If you refuse, we simply ask you get out of the way and allow us to help the people that sent us here. They understand how flawed and out of touch your caucus is on energy issues, and so do we."
Actually, Pelosi has already tipped her hand. She very well may call a vote on a plan with enough "poison pills" to choke a goat!
Is that the plan? Propose something totally UNACCEPTABLE and then blame the opposition when they rightfully block it?
Pelosi is NOT beyond pontificating:
"America faces a choice: a continuation of the Bush-Cheney-McCain approach that perpetuates the failed policies that have produced soaring prices or a comprehensive, bipartisan strategy that develops new and traditional sources of energy."
The Wall Street Journal again:

"The Coloradan might well be irked. Republicans like Mr. Schaffer had successfully turned this summer's political debate into a fight over domestic energy exploration, putting anti-drilling Democrats on defense. Or at least that was the scene until the 'Gang' -- five Republicans and five Democrats -- announced a lackluster 'drilling' deal that may provide the left the cover it needs to defuse the energy issue."

What's Wrong With Compromise?
The problem is that the word "compromise" doesn't appear to mean to some Members of Congress what it means to the rest of us.
Two years ago, the "Gang of 14" gave us a "compromise" on President Bush's conservative judicial nominees. The result? Nominees are still waiting in limbo!
Last year, another gang of legislators tried to sneak a
"compromise" immigration bill past the American people. You helped stop that because you knew the result would have been amnesty for as many as 12-20 million illegal aliens!
Now Pelosi claims she wants to
"compromise" on energy legislation? What was that old Scottish proverb again?
It should be apparent by now that the plotting of the "Gang of Ten" has already done some damage. The fact that Pelosi is able to use it as political cover to attempt to sabotage drilling is proof enough!
The Wall Street Journal explains the catastrophic consequences of this disastrous and treacherous defection in even more specifics:
"The Sierra Club couldn't have penned it better. And so the Republican Five has potentially given anti-drilling Democrats the political cover they need to neutralize energy through November."
"Sen. Obama was thrilled. He quickly praised the Gang's bipartisan spirit, and warmed up to a possible compromise. Of course, he means removing even the token drilling provisions now in the bill. But he's only too happy for the focus to remain on the Gang's efforts, and in particular on the five Republicans providing his party its fig leaf."
The article continues:
"Equally gleeful was Louisiana's Mary Landrieu, the Senate's most vulnerable Democrat. She had been sweating the energy debate, especially after her vote against more oil shale production -- a position her Republican opponent, John Kennedy, had used against her to great effect. Yet there she was, chummily standing with the Gang of 10 and boasting that she is working with 'five Republicans' to 'lower prices at the pump by increasing offshore drilling here at home.'"
But that isn't the only thing wrong with this "Gang of Ten" betrayal! In a scornful analysis, the Institute for Energy Research released an analysis of the "Gang of Ten" betrayal, calling it a blueprint for economic and electoral disaster.
This is no "compromise." It is total surrender!

Repeating The Same Failed Energy Policies Of The Last Thirty Years...
Recently, Senator Barack Obama said on the campaign trail that lifting the moratorium on drilling would "merely prolong the failed energy policies we have seen from Washington for 30 years."
But, in actuality, it is the "Gang of Ten" betrayal which may "prolong the failed energy policies we have seen from Washington for 30 years."
Economist, Robert Murphy, issued the following statement:
"[T]his headline-hungry gang decided it had to do something before leaving town for the August vacation."
"The New Era plan is the same as the era we find ourselves stuck in today --flush in subsidies, tax credits, and various other government handouts, but short on the energy supplies our economy and our consumers need to prosper. American families would be better served if the Gang and the entire Congress simply stopped trying to help...."
